Ops Selamat: Melaka Police To Step Up Surveillance At 10 Hotspots, Seven Blackspots

Melaka: Melaka police will step up surveillance at 10 hotspots (congestion-prone areas) and seven blackspots (accident-prone areas) throughout Op Selamat 25 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar stated that these areas include federal roads, state roads, and city roads, such as Jalan Krubong, Lebuh AMJ (Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin), and several locations along the North-South Expressway (PLUS). He noted an increase in accident cases this year, particularly along the federal roads and the PLUS highway, compared to last year. In Melaka, the highway covers nearly 50 kilometres, starting from Simpang Ampat in Alor Gajah to Jasin.

Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar emphasized that accidents are not solely due to human negligence but also result from imperfect or uneven road conditions. He made these remarks during the launch of Melaka's Ops Selamat 25, which was also attended by the Mayor of Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB), Datuk Shadan Othman, at Dataran MBMB.

Furthermore, he anticipates a 66 percent increase in the number of vehicles entering Melaka during the Chinese New Year holiday period, rising to 318,000 vehicles from the usual 105,000 on normal days. He advised residents planning to leave their homes during this period to notify the police via the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application or by contacting the nearest police station. Currently, 80,000 users in the state have registered through the VSP app.
