Kuantan: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has issued 532 on-the-spot compounds involving various offences amounting to more than RM143,000 throughout the Ops Pantau operation up to yesterday. Its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh stated that the offences included failure to display price tags, selling counterfeit goods, and using unverified weighing and measuring instruments.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 892 complaints were received, and 36,510 inspections were conducted at locations such as grocery shops, Ramadan bazaars, and supermarkets. These inspections are part of the Ministry's efforts to ensure compliance and protect consumer rights during the busy Ramadan period.
Fuziah noted that only eight cases were recorded during Ops Pantau at Ramadan bazaars, with incidents occurring in Penang, Terengganu, and Sarawak. Ops Pantau 2026, which runs from February 19 to March 20, is a proactive government initiative to monitor supply and prices of goods during Ramadan and ahead of the Aidilfitri celebration.
Fuziah also highlighted that Pahang hosts seven Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar (BRR) locations, including Mahkota Square, Bandar Bera, and Bandar Jerantut. At these locations, traders offer a variety of food priced at RM5 and below, catering to low-income groups seeking affordable meals for breaking fast.
Addressing concerns about rising prices due to the Middle East crisis, Fuziah stated that current monitoring has not revealed any unusual price increases. The ministry has not received complaints on the issue, and she encouraged individuals to report any such cases for prompt investigation.
