Opening of Service Centre in Padang Serai Not Linked to Electoral Ambitions: Saifuddin Nasution

Padang serai: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified that the recently inaugurated People's Service Centre in Padang Serai should not be interpreted as a sign of his intention to contest in the parliamentary constituency during the upcoming election.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that the primary purpose of the service centre is to provide better access for the residents of southern Kedah to federal government assistance. He noted, "No, that is too early (to determine the seat). As I said earlier as the joint chairman of the State Development Action Council (MTPN), I have an office in Kedah but there (Alor Setar), here in southern Kedah so it is easier for the people to access." He further elaborated on the uncertainty regarding his candidacy, stating that while he may choose to contest, the decision has not been finalized and is unrelated to the centre's opening.

He made these remarks during a press conference following the opening of the Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail People's Service Centre in Padang Serai. Saifuddin Nasution, who holds the position of secretary-general within Pakatan Harapan (PH), previously secured the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat but faced defeat in the 15th general election.

Furthermore, as the chairman of the Kedah PKR State Leadership Council (MPN), Saifuddin Nasution expressed the party's intention to refine its strategies throughout the year, aiming to become a more effective opposition within the state. He stated that the role of PH representatives in Kedah extends beyond criticising the state government, as they also seek to propose solutions to public issues.

He elaborated, "It's different at the centre; in Kedah, we are the opposition. So we need to play an effective role as a check and balance, so we need to start with a neat organisation and accurate information." After holding the position of joint chairman of MTPN Kedah for three years, Saifuddin Nasution highlighted his ability to oversee federal government project achievements and pledged to report any state government-related issues.
