Open And Sincere Dialogue Key To National Survival – PM Anwar

Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today emphasised the importance of open and sincere dialogue in fostering understanding and mutual respect among Malaysia’s diverse communities. Speaking at the International Conference on Civilisation Dialogue, Anwar described the dialogue as a critical component of national survival and unity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the dialogue’s paramount importance for a multi-ethnic country like Malaysia. He pointed out the challenges faced by educators and institutions in promoting peace and security, rather than succumbing to divisive rhetoric. Anwar reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to championing national dialogue, emphasizing that it was a moral imperative rather than a political strategy.

Anwar stated that he had tasked Muslim scholar and activist Prof Datuk Dr Osman Bakar with engaging Members of Parliament in discussions on civilisation, interfaith understanding, and dialogue to foster tolerance, respect, and coexistence. He expressed concern that many Members of Parliament do not fully understand the importance of civilizational dialogue, especially in the context of Malaysia’s diverse religions and ethnicities.

The Prime Minister noted that efforts to promote dialogue aimed at fostering greater public understanding have not been as successful as hoped, despite numerous ongoing initiatives. Also present at the event were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, and National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
