Selangor: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) raided 35 business premises under Op GASAK to combat the abuse of cooking gas subsidies in seven districts in Selangor last Thursday and Friday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor KPDN Director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey stated that the operations took place in Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Gombak, Kajang, Sepang, Kuala Kubu Bharu, and Kuala Selangor. His team recorded four cases involving seizures of 90 units of cooking gas (LPG) cylinders, with a total value estimated at RM8,000.
He mentioned that the operation on May 1 and 2 focused on poultry companies, cooking gas suppliers, laundry businesses, and food restaurants. The cases were recorded for offences under Regulations 18(1) and 21(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, with investigations also conducted under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
Mohd Zuhairi highlighted that Op GASAK 2025 is part of the ‘Kita Gempur’ initiative launched by the ministry to combat manipulation in business activities and leakage involving controlled and subsidised controlled goods. He emphasized that the Selangor KPDN would continue to intensify enforcement through a targeted, data-based approach, as well as consumer and trader education.
He further stated that efforts would include increasing public awareness and participation to cultivate more informed, responsible, and protected consumers.
