Oil Price Impact: KPKM Awaits Advice Of MOF, Govt On Providing Vegetable Seed Aid

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) will seek the views and advice of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Ministry of Economy to devise a specific strategy to address the impact of rising global oil prices on the country's food sector. Its Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said that although the country's food import logistics routes are not directly affected by the current conflict in the Middle East, the uncertainty of world oil prices is expected to still have an impact on the chain in the coming months.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Sabu stated that the oil price issue and its implications might not be immediate but could emerge in the forthcoming months. He emphasized the importance of consulting the Ministry of Finance and Economy in formulating a strategic response. Mohamad shared these insights during an interaction with reporters at the Langek Kacau Dodol MADANI 101 Kawah programme at Padang Stadium Mini Pekan Batu 14.

Earlier, Mohamad highlighted the ministry's plan to re-evaluate the country's food supply stock after May due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. He reassured that the current stock of essential food items such as rice, chicken, and vegetables is sufficient until May, urging the public to avoid panic buying.

In anticipation of potential economic effects, Mohamad mentioned that the government is considering providing plant seeds to encourage self-sufficiency among the populace. This initiative aims to promote self-reliance and support community sharing of resources. He referenced the 'Green Book' program from the era of the late Tun Abdul Razak, which similarly encouraged self-sufficiency through gardening.
