Shah alam: The Selangor Government has declared Oct 26 as a replacement public holiday throughout the state in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the reign of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin announced that since the main celebration and special public holiday on Oct 25 falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will serve as the replacement holiday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Silver Jubilee celebrations are scheduled to occur from Sept 28 to Nov 1. This period is dedicated to expressing loyalty, respect, and gratitude from the state administration and its people under Sultan Sharafuddin's reign. A total of 20 official programmes and events are planned, encompassing community affairs, religious activities, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development, and sports. The efforts involve collaboration between state and federal government departments, local authorities, statutory bodies, state government-linked companies, and non-governmental organisations.
Ahmad Fadzli outlined that the highlight of the celebrations would be on Oct 25, featuring three main ceremonies: the Inspection of the Guard of Honour with a 21-gun salute, the Proclamation of Titles and Oath-Taking Ceremony, and the presentation of state awards. Additional community and welfare programmes include the Menyantuni Anak-Anak Yatim Kembara Semenanjung programme, the opening of the Autism-Friendly Park, the Kita Run, and a royal tea reception.
Religious programmes during the celebrations will include a yasin recitation and doa selamat, as well as the Multaqa and Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam. Heritage and historical documentation initiatives will feature the launch of a special commemorative envelope and stamps, commemorative coins, and the book launch of 'Menjulang Takhta'.
For sports and talent development, events will include the inauguration of the Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club, the Sultan of Selangor Silver Jubilee Cup Polo Championship, and an under-15 football league match. Ahmad Fadzli emphasized the state government's commitment to prudent governance, adhering to Sultan Sharafuddin's decree for the celebrations to be conducted modestly and effectively, avoiding unnecessary expenditure.
He concluded by expressing hope that the planned programmes proceed smoothly, become a historic occasion, and further strengthen the bond between the ruler and the people of Selangor.
