Kuala lumpur: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) and National Sports Council (NSC) are actively monitoring the flood situation in Songkhla, Thailand, which is set to host the SEA Games 2025 from December 9 to 20. Malaysian deputy chef de mission Datuk Kenny Goh emphasized that the safety of the Malaysian contingent is the main priority as they keep in constant communication with the Thailand SEA Games Committee for updates on the situation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Kenny Goh mentioned that the secretariat remains in regular contact with the organizers to stay informed about the flood conditions in the province. He indicated that it is too early to finalize any contingency plans, such as opting for air travel instead of land, but reassured that they have time to make decisions as the situation develops.
Goh further stated, “The secretariat is monitoring the situation there. I understand that they are in constant contact with the organisers. For now, we are still waiting. I feel that we still have time. We hope the floods will recede and everything will be back to normal.” He added that no official information has been received about any venues being impacted by the floods in Songkhla.
On a related note, Malaysian Consul-General in Songkhla, Ahmad Fahmi Ahmad Sarkawi, advised Malaysians to postpone travel to the province due to the ongoing deluge caused by continuous rainfall. The floods have resulted in approximately 4,000 Malaysians being stranded in hotels around the area.
