Kuantan: National competitive sailor Nur Shazrin Mohd Latif and national men's indoor hockey player Muhammad Izham Azhar have been crowned Pahang Sportswoman and Sportsman for 2023/2024. Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah presented the biennial awards at the Pahang Sports Award Ceremony 2023/2024 at Sultan Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall here today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nur Shazrin described the award as a most honoured achievement as she beat other nominees such as pole vaulter Nur Sarah Adi, lawn bowler Nur Alyani Jamil, petanque athlete Nur Thahirah Tasnim Abdul Aziz, and kegler Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik. She expressed surprise at her win, mentioning her current competitions in the Asian Games and her ranking in the top 10 of the Star Sailors League (SSL) Gold Cup. She is focused on preparing for the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, despite recovering from a hand injury. She anticipates resuming training next week.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Izham conveyed his appreciation for the honor, expressing surprise at the announcement of his name but also pride in the achievement. He thanked his family and coaches for their unwavering support and guidance since his student days. He shared that he is currently concentrating on the Malaysian Indoor Hockey League competition and preparing for the Indoor Hockey Asian Cup in July.
