Nur Aneesa Aira Wins Bronze At Asian Junior Meet To Make History For Labuan

Shaoguan: Nur Aneesa Aira Mohamad Affendi created history for Labuan by winning a bronze medal in the Junior Female Kata (16-17 years) event at the 23rd Asian Cadet, Junior and U21 Karate Championship 2025 from Sept 5 to 7 in Shaoguan, China. Her feat makes her the first female athlete from Labuan to win a medal for Malaysia at the Asian Karate Federation (AKF) championship.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Labuan Karate Association stated that the success was the result of Nur Aneesa Aira’s hard work, discipline, and strong fighting spirit. “We believe her achievement will inspire the younger generation in Labuan to continue bringing glory to Malaysia on the world stage,” the association said.

Another Labuan representative, Diya Khalish Kasryanto, competed in the Cadet Female Kumite (14-15 years) -61kg category but did not secure a medal. Labuan karate has been making its mark in recent years, with Muhammad Aiqal also winning a bronze at the same championship in 2023.

Malaysia won three silver and four bronze medals to finish 12th overall in the Shaoguan championship.
