KELANTAN: The flood situation in Kelantan and Terengganu has deteriorated, leading to an increase in the number of evacuees seeking refuge at relief centers (PPS) as of this morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees climbed to 882 by 8 a.m., involving 267 families accommodated at 19 PPS, a significant increase from 482 individuals the previous night. The Disaster Info Portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) reported that Tanah Merah district recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 633 individuals from 208 families housed in 13 PPS. This was followed by Kuala Krai, with 165 individuals from 38 families taking shelter at four PPS, and Machang, with 84 individuals from 21 families at two PPS. The Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s Public Infobanjir portal indicated that the water level of Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang had exceeded the danger mark, rising to 9.11 meters, surpassing the danger level of 9.0 meters. Additionally, two rivers in Tanah Merah, Sungai Golok in Kampung Jenob and Sungai Sokor, were reported at warning levels.
In Terengganu, the number of evacuees escalated to 651 from 177 families this morning, up from 112 individuals from 37 families the previous evening. The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat (JPBNT) reported Hulu Terengganu as having the highest number of evacuees, with 412 people from 111 families. This was followed by Besut with 228 people from 61 families and Kemaman with 11 people from five families, all housed at 17 PPS. The number of evacuees is anticipated to increase further as rainfall continues in various parts of the state. The Public Infobanjir portal noted that only Sungai Telemong in Kuala Ping (F1) station in Hulu Terengganu is currently at the danger level, with a water level of 20.89 meters. Additionally, the levels of Sungai Tebak at Jambatan Tebak, Kemaman; Sungai Terengganu at Rumah Pam Pulau Bahagia (F1), Kuala Terengganu; and Sungai Nerus at Kampung Bukit, Setiu are at warning points.
