Kota kinabalu: All 25 nomination centres for the 17th Sabah State Election were closed at 10 am today, marking the conclusion of the nomination process that commenced at 9 am.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the announcement regarding the closure of the nomination centres was made by the respective returning officers at each location. The process witnessed groups of supporters gathering at several sites, showing their support for the candidates. Some supporters were seen in traditional attire, adding a cultural touch to the proceedings.
The situation across all nomination centres was reported to be calm and under control, with no incidents of provocation. The smooth conduct of the process was ensured by the Royal Malaysia Police, who were supported by the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department in maintaining order.
The Election Commission has scheduled Nov 25 for early voting, while the polling day is set for Nov 29. The campaign period will last for 14 days, starting from today after the nominations until 11.59 pm on Nov 28.
A total of 1,784,843 electors are eligible to vote in the upcoming election. This includes 1,760,417 regular electors, 11,697 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and their spouses.
