JERTIH: The pilot project of the Flood Mitigation Technology, known as the NoFloods product, is currently at the proof of concept (POC) stage and is deemed effective in addressing flood issues and minimizing road disruptions caused by disasters. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the 300-meter product at Section 6.30, Federal Road FT189, results from a collaboration between the Ministry of Works (MOW) and the concessionaire, with installations scheduled from October 1 until March 31, 2025.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta observed how the product, which leverages Internet of Things (IOT) technology, acts as a barrier to prevent water from entering the streets. However, he noted that the full report is still pending. The technology involves water entering a large pipe, which serves as a flood barrier, and utilizes IOT to provide real-time information through an application.

Nanta highlighted the product’s effectiveness during his inspection, stating that NoFloods could acc
ommodate up to 1.2 meters of floodwater, with the recorded water level reaching 0.9 meters above ground level. He explained that it is installed temporarily in necessary locations, much like a Bailey bridge.

In addition, Nanta mentioned that his department has planned maintenance work on flood-damaged road infrastructure in Terengganu next year, following his survey of several sites. Priority areas for road maintenance include Jalan Kuala Terengganu – Kuantan (FT003) in Sections 463-465, Jalan Bukit Besi – Dungun (FT132) in Sections 8-10, and Jalan Jerangau – Jabor (FT14) in Sections 117-118.

For 2025, the Ministry of Works has identified and applied for 228 pavement mitigation projects worth RM301.77 million and 197 phased pavement mitigation works worth RM46.9 million for Federal Roads in Terengganu.
