No Procession For Sarawak Maulidur Rasul Celebration Amid Haze, Hot Weather

Sarikei: The 2026 Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul celebration, scheduled to be held at Dewan Sentral Sarikei on August 25, will proceed without a procession due to concerns over haze and hot weather conditions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the coordinating chairman of the event, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, announced that the celebration was initially planned for the Sarikei Sports Complex. However, the venue and program were amended as a precaution. As a result, the number of participants from the 125 contingents will be adjusted to between 2,500 and 3,000 to fit the new venue's capacity.

Dr Abdul Rahman stated that contingents who have confirmed their participation will be requested to reduce their numbers to ensure the event runs smoothly. He also highlighted that notable figures such as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg are expected to attend the gathering.

The night before the main event, these dignitaries are scheduled to partake in a thanksgiving and zikir ceremony at Al-Muttaqin Mosque. They will also attend a special lecture by Sarawak Mufti Datuk Khalidi Ibrahim and perform Maghrib and Isyak prayers with the local community.

Additionally, Abdul Rahman mentioned that four supplementary events would be conducted in conjunction with the celebration. These include the Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam on August 25 and various religious talks and forums at mosques and surau throughout Sarawak during the month of Rabiulawal.
