No Penalties in First Year of New Stamp Duty System, Says LHDN

Kuala lumpur: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has announced that there will be no penalties imposed during the first year of the Self-Assessment Stamp Duty System (STSDS) for applications submitted between January 1 and December 31, 2026. This measure is part of efforts to assist duty payers in transitioning smoothly to the new system.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, LHDN stated that the concession applies to errors made in Stamp Duty Return Form (BNDS) submissions, inaccuracies affecting stamp duty assessments, and offences as identified under subsection 72D(2) of the Stamp Act 1949. The initiative is designed to encourage voluntary compliance and provide time for users to become familiar with electronic self-stamping processes.

The e-Stamp Duty System has been made available for early access through the MyTax portal, allowing users to test and prepare for the change. Additionally, assistance is offered via the HASiL Contact Centre at 03-8911 1000 or +603-8911 1000 for those overseas, HASiL Live Chat, and the feedback form accessible on LHDN's official portal.
