No Notification On Peter Anthony’s Reported Parole – Sabah Police

Sabah: Sabah police have yet to receive any official information regarding claims that Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) president Datuk Peter Anthony has been released on parole. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said matters related to parole fall under the jurisdiction of the Prisons Department, not the police.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Jauteh Dikun clarified that no official information has been received from any party about the parole. He refrained from commenting further, emphasizing that an official notice is necessary before any statement can be made. This was relayed to reporters at the launch of the Sabah Police Gallery.

When asked if Peter Anthony is required to report to the police, Datuk Jauteh Dikun stated that this would depend on directives from the Prisons Department director. This comes amidst media reports suggesting that the former Sabah Infrastructure Minister, who is serving a three-year prison sentence at Kajang Prison for falsifying documents, was released on parole two weeks ago.

Peter Anthony was sentenced to three years' imprisonment and fined RM50,000 on May 26, 2022, after the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court found him guilty of falsifying a letter from the office of the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) deputy vice-chancellor with intent to deceive. His appeal against the conviction and sentence was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on March 4, 2025, and he began serving his prison term on the same day.

The Court of Appeal further rejected his review application on August 20, 2025, maintaining the three-year sentence. Peter Anthony had previously won the Melalap state seat in the 2018 General Election and the 2020 State Election under a Parti Warisan ticket.
