No Malaysian Involved In Shooting, Explosion In Sungai Golok – Police

Kuala Lumpur: The police have confirmed that no Malaysian was involved in the shooting and explosion that occurred in Sungai Golok, Thailand tonight. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that security controls along the Malaysia-Thailand border will be tightened following the incident.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, all police station chiefs and the General Operations Force have been instructed to enhance control in high-risk areas, particularly illegal entry points, with continuous surveillance. This decision comes in response to the violent incident that took place earlier in the evening.

The Thai police reported that an explosion occurred at a security control post outside the Sungai Golok district office along Jalan Sungai Golok-Sungai Padi. Several shots were fired by a group of assailants, resulting in the deaths of at least two Thai security personnel and injuring another eight during the attack, which occurred at approximately 7.10 pm.

The attackers allegedly threw about five grenades during the assault, prompting Thai security forces to conduct checks in the area. The Thai authorities in Sungai Golok have been increasing security measures since the beginning of Ramadan to prevent such incidents.
