No Health Facilities Will Be Closed, Including Segamat Hospital – Dzulkefly

Kuala lumpur: The government has assured that no healthcare facilities in the country, including Segamat Hospital in Johor, will be shut down, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said. He emphasized that the situation at Segamat Hospital was due to service pressures and did not involve any suspension of services. The Health Ministry has activated a cluster crisis management mechanism to ensure patient care remains uninterrupted.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Dzulkefly stated that if situations arise due to a high number of patients, inpatients will continue to receive treatment, while outpatients will be referred to the nearest healthcare facilities for care. He stressed that there is no closure of services, and patient care cannot be compromised. The hospital remains operational, including its obstetrics and gynaecology services. He made these remarks after officiating the closing ceremony of the Health Ministry's 2026 Malaysian Nutrition Month celebration at a shopping mall today. Also present were Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad and Melaka Health Department director Dr Husnina Ibrahim.

Yesterday, Johor Health director Dr Mohtar Pungut@Ahmad dismissed claims circulating on social media that Segamat Hospital would cease operations on July 1, affirming that the hospital continues to operate as usual.

Meanwhile, commenting on the rise in malaria cases involving foreign nationals in Terengganu, Dzulkefly said the ministry has implemented several multi-agency measures to curb infections. These include an early warning mechanism to identify the arrival of migrant groups from malaria-endemic areas, targeted malaria screening among foreign nationals, and enhanced treatment and case management efforts. The Terengganu Health Department yesterday issued a high-alert warning following an increase in malaria cases among Rohingya individuals in the state.
