No ‘Borneo Bloc’, Says Hajiji

Sabah: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has denied claims that efforts were being made to create a 'Borneo bloc'. He said there is no such thing because Sabah and Sarawak remain part of Malaysia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hajiji emphasized the importance of cooperation between all parties, including the states and the federal government, to strengthen the nation. He stated, 'We are one country, and there must be cooperation between all parties - the states and the federal government - to further strengthen our nation, Malaysia.'

Hajiji addressed the issue while speaking to reporters after launching the Sabah Higher Education Student Contribution Assistance Initiative (SENTOSA) programme at Dewan Rafflesia, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu. He questioned the notion of a separate Borneo bloc, asking, 'In my view, there is no such thing as a Borneo bloc. Who is creating the Borneo bloc? There is none.'

The Chief Minister stressed the need to correct any misleading narratives, as labeling states in a manner that suggests separation could lead to public confusion. The media had recently reported a political leader's statements suggesting that Sabah and Sarawak already possess strong political influence in Malaysia and are seeking to enhance it through the proposed Borneo bloc.
