PUTRAJAYA: UMNO has not received any applications from former members seeking to rejoin the party, said UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that if there are any applications, the matter will be presented at the next UMNO Supreme Council meeting.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid clarified that, as of now, there have been no applications from former members. Should there be any in the future, these applications will first be brought to the Management Committee before being presented to the Supreme Council for consideration. He shared this information with reporters following the monthly assembly of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.

Ahmad Zahid was addressing a query about whether any former UMNO members had expressed a desire to return to the party. He also mentioned that the next Supreme Council meeting is anticipated to take place in January or February of the following year.

Additionally, it was noted that on November 25, the Sup
reme Council decided to lift the membership suspension of former Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, effective immediately. This decision was announced by UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, following a Supreme Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur. The unanimous decision adhered to Clauses 10.6 and 5.3 of the party constitution.

Tajuddin had been serving a six-year suspension beginning in September 2022, a consequence of his public criticism of the party. When questioned about former UMNO information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan’s comments, which suggested that Ahmad Zahid had crafted a narrative portraying himself as a “hero,” the Deputy Prime Minister dismissed these remarks, stating, “He is irrelevant.”
