According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hussein stated that "efforts to locate the woman's daughter are still underway, and the allegation that she was set up by her daughter is also being investigated," when contacted today. He mentioned that the Royal Malaysia Police had been informed of the arrest by Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
International media previously reported that the woman was detained by Nigerian authorities on May 17 after allegedly attempting to smuggle 31kg of Canadian Loud cannabis into the country through Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The naturalised Malaysian citizen is understood to have arrived in Nigeria on a flight from Thailand via Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). She is believed to have travelled from Malaysia to Thailand before heading to Nigeria, carrying two large suitcases containing the illicit substance.
During questioning, the woman claimed that the trip had been sponsored by her daughter and that she had stayed in Thailand for about two weeks before receiving the package for delivery to Nigeria.
