Nga Calls For In-depth Study Of Urban Renewal Convention Resolutions

Ipoh: Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming has directed the Town and Country Planning Department (PLANMalaysia) to conduct a more thorough study on the resolutions presented at the Urban Renewal Convention (URA).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the study will include proposals for improving the Urban Renewal Bill (RUU PSB), with potential amendments to the bill being introduced if the resolutions and suggestions put forth by UMNO are found to be practical and beneficial for all parties. Nga emphasized the ministry’s commitment to a people-centric approach, stating that they adhere to the principles of an open heart, open mind, and open door.

“I welcome all constructive feedback, as it will be considered when drafting any act or legislation. The aim of RUU PSB is to help the people, particularly residents of dilapidated and rundown flats,” Nga told reporters after the Sumbangan Kasih MADANI Sempena Deepavali programme held in Ipoh.

At the event, 625 secondary school students from the Buntong state constituency received RM400 each, totaling RM250,000 in contributions. When questioned about the timing for the second reading of the Urban Renewal Bill in the Dewan Rakyat, Nga mentioned that it would occur after the tabling of Budget 2026.

The URA Convention, organised by UMNO, brought together diverse stakeholders to discuss urban redevelopment issues, focusing on legal, socio-economic, and community welfare aspects. The resolutions underscore UMNO’s commitment to addressing challenges in urban renewal and improving the well-being of city residents.
