Kuala Lumpur: The construction of a new road linking the Lukut junction (Dataran Segar) to Kampung Si Rusa in Port Dickson is expected to be completed within two years. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun announced that the project involves building a road spanning between 10 and 13 kilometres, adhering to Public Works Department (JKR) R2 specifications, which include two lanes, two ways, and a design speed of 50 kilometres per hour (km/h).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this alternative road aims to reduce congestion in Port Dickson and shorten travel time from Lukut or Bagan Pinang. The route will pass through Kampung Paya and Kampung Bagan Pinang, bypassing downtown Port Dickson. Datuk Seri Aminuddin stated that the new route is expected to benefit over 5,000 local residents by improving access to Lukut town and Si Rusa.
In addition, Aminuddin mentioned that PLUS Malaysia Berhad has plans to upgrade the Pedas Rest and Service Area (R and R) northbound. The current rest stop is deemed too small and lacks adequate facilities for highway users, serving only as a temporary stopping point.
The planned upgrades include constructing new facilities such as a surau, rest areas, recreational spaces, and food stalls, as well as trading areas for small traders, including mobile van vendors. Aminuddin highlighted that this initiative has the potential to positively impact the local community in Pedas by creating new business opportunities and stimulating economic activity in the area.
