Kuala lumpur: The new giant panda pair, Chen Xing and Xiao Yue, were today introduced to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Giant Panda Conservation Centre (PKGP) at Zoo Negara here. Anwar arrived to officiate the panda pair's introduction ceremony at about 11.30 am. The Prime Minister also took time to sign the visitors' book and tour the panda exhibition area.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event was attended by several dignitaries including Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, his deputy Syed lbrahim Syed Noh, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing. The giant panda pair, Chen Xing (male) and Xiao Yue (female), arrived from China on Nov 18, 2025, and have completed their quarantine period.
Last Thursday, Arthur announced that PKGP would be opened to the public in the near future. Arthur stated that the panda pair was an icon of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, serving to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in wildlife conservation and research.
