New MyKad to Feature Enhanced Security with 53 Elements

Kuala lumpur: The new MyKad, expected to be launched next month, will boast 53 security elements, significantly more than the 23 elements present in the current version.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, National Registration Director-General Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias announced that the upgraded security features include laser engraving, ultraviolet (UV) elements, holograms, guilloche patterns, microtext, QR codes for enforcement purposes, and a chip with enhanced encryption technology. He emphasized that these features offer superior security compared to the existing MyKad.

'The launch will be announced by the Home Ministry when the time comes, and at the National Registration Department (NRD) level, we are ready for that purpose,' Badrul Hisham told reporters after the NRD Management Meeting with the Media. He stated that the introduction of the new MyKad underscores the government's commitment to bolstering identity security in response to technological advancements and evolving security challenges.

Badrul Hisham also mentioned that updated versions of MyPoCA and MyTentera cards are set to be introduced alongside the new MyKad next month. However, he clarified that the new MyKad would not include the Touch 'n Go feature.

In addition, he highlighted that the media engagement session was organized to enhance the relationship between the NRD and media practitioners. 'At the same time, the NRD also expresses its appreciation to media partners who have worked closely with the department in delivering authentic information to the public,' he added.
