Kuala lumpur: Private sector employers in Negeri Sembilan have the discretion to decide whether to grant an Occasional Holiday to employees tomorrow, as it is designated as an optional public holiday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Labour Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) clarified in a statement that the leave is not mandatory for private sector employees. Employers who opt to recognize the Negeri Sembilan Occasional Holiday must provide a paid public holiday to their employees on the specified day.

The statement further elaborated that employers may, with employee consent, substitute the holiday for another day, as outlined under Section 60D (1A) of the Employment Act 1955. This provision allows flexibility in observing public holidays in the private sector.

The Negeri Sembilan State Government declared tomorrow, August 3, as an occasional holiday. This declaration was made to appreciate the contributions of the people of Negeri Sembilan and all those involved in ensuring the success of the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN), which concluded yesterday.

JTKSM noted that the declaration of the occasional holiday was in accordance with Subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951. This subsection grants state authorities the power to declare any day as a public holiday for their respective state.
