Seremban: Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) is setting its sights on securing more than 20 state seats in the forthcoming state election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman Anthony Loke stated that this goal is based on the coalition's performance in the 14th general election (GE14), where they successfully captured 20 state seats and subsequently formed the state government. Loke emphasized the commitment of party components to support their counterparts within PH in maintaining control of the state government and securing a robust mandate from the electorate.
Loke revealed that the Negeri Sembilan DAP Committee convened to discuss strategies for the upcoming state election following the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly last Friday. He expressed confidence in PH's preparedness for the election, underscoring the aim to clinch at least more than 20 seats. Loke, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Seremban, affirmed his intention to defend the Chennah state seat in the election. Additionally, he confirmed that all DAP state incumbents are prepared to defend the 11 seats won by the party in the 15th state election.
The dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, effective June 5, to facilitate the state election, which is mandated to occur within 60 days. The 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election resulted in PH and BN forming the state government after securing 31 out of 36 state seats, with PH winning 17 seats and BN obtaining 14 seats. Perikatan Nasional (PN) captured five seats. Negeri Sembilan follows Johor as the second state to dissolve its assembly for an election, with Johor having done so on June 1.
