Negeri sembilan: The Negeri Sembilan government is optimistic about elevating the edu-tourism sector as a new driver of the state's economy and identity in line with Visit Negeri Sembilan 2026. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun emphasized that the state should not be recognized solely for the scenic beaches of Port Dickson or its traditional cuisine. Instead, it must assert itself as a globally respected intellectual hub for Syariah law and Adat Perpatih.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state holds a unique distinction through the practice of Adat Perpatih, harmoniously observed alongside Syariah law in the daily lives of its people. Aminuddin expressed a vision for the state to become a key reference destination for scholars, students, and researchers both domestically and internationally. He envisions Negeri Sembilan as a 'living laboratory' where customs and Syariah are actively practiced in everyday life.
Speaking at the National Syariah Judiciary and Legal Convention (KOPKES 2026), themed 'Understanding Adat Perpatih: The Privileged Position of Women in Property Ownership', Aminuddin highlighted the potential of this strength as a knowledge-based tourism product. He noted that conventions and academic programs could bolster Negeri Sembilan's position as an intellectual reference center rooted in tradition while keeping pace with modern developments.
As part of efforts to reinforce this aspiration, the state government welcomed the publication of the Jurnal Al-Taqrir, a strategic collaboration between the Negeri Sembilan Syariah Judiciary Department and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Aminuddin described this initiative as a progressive step in documenting the wealth of legal knowledge and Syariah judgments for academic reference, demonstrating the state's capacity to contribute to the advancement of knowledge through contemporary ijtihad approaches.
Aminuddin also addressed the significance and timeliness of the convention theme, emphasizing that it not only opens space for academic discourse but also enhances public understanding of the unique Adat Perpatih social system. In the context of property ownership, Adat Perpatih places women as trustees of inherited assets, a major responsibility in ensuring family continuity and social stability. He noted that women in this adat are not only protected but also elevated as the pillars safeguarding heritage continuity.
From the perspective of Islamic law, Aminuddin stated that Adat Perpatih has never conflicted with Syariah, but instead complements it, forming the foundation of harmony between custom and religion, a long-standing strength of Negeri Sembilan.
