Kuala lumpur: About 981 million e-invoices have been issued in total as of February 4, 2026, indicating the widespread use of the system by taxpayers nationwide.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has adopted a 'nudging' approach to ensure the compliance process is carried out fairly and prudently. This initiative aims to raise awareness and provide taxpayers with the opportunity to correct and voluntarily submit accurate tax information.
Amir Hamzah further revealed that preliminary reviews of Phase 1 and Phase 2 data show a significant number of taxpayers coming forward. A total of 17,188 taxpayers identified as non-compliant in submitting their Income Tax Return Forms (BNCP) have voluntarily submitted them. This effort involves backdated income amounting to RM1.4 billion, contributing to RM290 million in additional tax revenue, demonstrating that early compliance measures and voluntary compliance encouragement yield positive results.
He also assured that the implementation of e-invoicing does not burden micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as only 35 data fields are mandatory. Out of these, MSMEs are required to fill in only five fields, with most information automatically populated through business systems or point-of-sale (POS) systems. Additionally, QR code scanning facilities are provided to enable sellers to obtain buyer information more efficiently without manual entry.
