SEPANG: Over 184,000 spectators turned up to watch the three-day 2024 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (GP) at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) here. SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said although it did not meet their target of 200,000 spectators, it still exceeded last year’s figure of 182,912.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Azhan expressed satisfaction with the turnout, highlighting that the exact number of attendees reached 184,923. He mentioned that the event ran smoothly and that stakeholders were pleased with the outcome. Azhan noted the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, marking his first attendance at a MotoGP race, as a significant highlight of this year’s edition.

Azhan attributed the public’s enthusiastic response to the affordable Rahmah ticket sales priced at RM49.90. He observed that many spectators opted for the K2 Hillstand tickets despite the lack of seating and coverage, acknowledging the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) for their support in th
is initiative.

Furthermore, Azhan announced SIC’s openness to providing local riders with access to the circuit for training purposes, charging only for security and marshal fees. He emphasized that specific stipulations would be set for safety, ensuring that riders with different motorcycle capacities train separately. Azhan extended an invitation to Malaysian riders to train at the SIC whenever slots are available, with the circuit rental being free.
