SEREMBAN: Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad’s (MAHB) Network Development Programme (NDP) is set to enhance the appeal of Melaka International Airport (LTAM) for airline operations, potentially increasing both domestic and international connectivity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer, chairman of the State Works, Infrastructure, Public Amenities, and Transport Committee, highlighted the NDP’s role in incentivizing airlines to initiate new routes to international destinations. The programme, effective from January 1, 2025, through December 2027, offers various incentives to airlines, including exemptions from landing charges, passenger growth rebates, and marketing support. These measures aim to stimulate interest in LTAM, with the broader goal of contributing to Malaysia’s economic growth.
During a session at the Melaka State Legislative Assembly in Seri Negeri, Hameed responded to an inquiry by Kerk Chee Yee (PH-Ayer Keroh) regarding the availability of domestic and international flights at LTAM. He also stressed the state government’s commitment to promoting LTAM through events like the annual Melaka International Air Carnival (KUAM). The 2024 edition of KUAM drew 83,877 visitors, a notable rise from the 60,000 attendees the previous year, generating revenue of RM171,420.
Hameed’s remarks underscore the strategic importance of LTAM in regional development and the potential for increased air traffic, benefiting both the local economy and the broader aviation industry.
