NDIP Unveiled to Enhance National Security and Boost Defence Sector Credibility

Kuala lumpur: The National Defence Industry Policy (NDIP) launched today marks a significant move towards fortifying national security and revitalizing confidence in the defence sector, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that the long-awaited policy is finally being executed to meet current demands and address recent challenges faced by the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF). Speaking at the NDIP launching ceremony, Anwar highlighted the importance of the policy in overcoming the crises that have affected the MAF.

The Prime Minister outlined that the NDIP is founded on four critical pillars: enhancing governance and institutions, advancing technological capabilities, strengthening the local defence supply chain ecosystem, and boosting global competitiveness and exports. Emphasizing good governance, Anwar noted that these pillars aim to provide a sustainable and integrity-driven framework for the defence industry.

He further elaborated on the technological advancement pillar, which includes the Industrial Collaboration Programme, and stressed the importance of self-reliance in technology to support local industries. The focus on global competitiveness is intended to position Malaysia as an exporter of defence products, contingent on developing efficient internal capabilities.

Addressing issues of corruption and malpractice, Anwar underscored the need for integrity and good governance in NDIP's implementation. He reassured that ongoing investigations should not overshadow the dedication and service of the majority of military personnel, reaffirming their commitment and responsibility to the nation.

Anwar concluded by asserting that NDIP aims to instill new hope for Malaysia's industrial capabilities, with the entire Cabinet backing the policy's execution. He guaranteed collective support to enhance and restore the defence sector's role and capacity.
