Kuala lumpur: A nation may possess abundant resources and a talented population but still fail its people if its institutions are weak and its leaders unaccountable, emphasized the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah. His Royal Highness highlighted the critical importance of strong governance, transparency, and the impartial application of the rule of law as he addressed the 8th World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation (WCIT) themed "Everyone Matters: Pride and Unity in Islam."

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Nazrin stressed that political stability arises not from the absence of debate but from the presence of robust institutions that allow for constructive disagreement. He noted that when citizens lose trust in the fairness of elections, the independence of courts, or the integrity of public offices, societal fabric begins to unravel, affecting the most vulnerable.

Sultan Nazrin underscored that a government's budget reflects its moral priorities, indicating whose needs are prioritized. He advocated for a civil service that serves all citizens impartially and leaders who govern with humility, emphasizing that true loyalty and pride stem from inclusive governance.

On the topic of development, Sultan Nazrin argued that nations cannot thrive in isolation and must engage in open trade and build diversified industries. He warned against protectionism and over-reliance on single sectors, advocating instead for cooperation that supports sustainable growth without compromising national autonomy.

Sultan Nazrin also highlighted the untapped potential of Islamic finance as a tool for economic cooperation. He pointed out Malaysia's position as a global hub for Islamic finance and stressed that its philosophy of risk-sharing and equitable participation could drive cross-border infrastructure investment and SME financing, addressing critical development challenges.
