National Women’s Policy 2025-2030 Aims to Support Domestic Violence Victims

Kuala Lumpur: The National Women’s Policy 2025-2030 launched today will focus on improving existing policies and stepping up enforcement against domestic violence offenders. Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri emphasized the need for enhanced protection for women, particularly those involved in domestic violence.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the new policies aim to address loopholes in previous frameworks, with a significant emphasis on punitive measures and actionable steps against perpetrators. Nancy stressed the importance of implementation, stating, “Punishment must be stepped up. we don’t want to just talk but there needs to be implementation in terms of punishment and action needs to be taken against perpetrators.” Her remarks came after attending the officiation of the 2025 International Women’s Day Celebrations at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the policy.

Nancy stated that the ministry plans to collaborate with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to intensify enforcement actions. She also highlighted the 2025 International Women’s Day celebrations, themed ‘Aspirational Women Building a Legacy’. For the first time, the ministry has organized pre-celebration activities to foster comprehensive and inclusive participation, starting with the Borneo Zone on February 11 and continuing through various zones with an estimated 500 to 1,000 participants in each.

The celebrations included awareness and advocacy campaigns, forums, and dialogue sessions with women leaders and experts from various fields, focusing on leadership, economy, and women welfare. In conjunction with the launch, the Prime Minister presented special Kasih Wanita Awards to four individuals to honor their significant contributions.

Cempaka Merah Asnaf Society founder Che Norhayati Mohamed was awarded the Kasih Wanita Bakti Award, former schizophrenia patient Nor Kamariah Mohd Khalid Lourdes Lid received the Kasih Wanita Cekal Award, former police personnel Jennifer Atok was honored with the Kasih Wanita Harmoni Award, and Orang Asli teacher Amira Yoke Bes received the Kasih Wanita Komuniti Award.
