Kangar: National security and public wellbeing cannot rest on the authorities alone, but require the support, awareness, and cooperation of society at all levels, said Perlis police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim. He emphasized that ties between the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the public must be strengthened through community synergy programmes aimed at bringing both sides closer and fostering mutual trust.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Abdul Halim stated, "The peace we enjoy today is the result of joint efforts. Without public support, the authorities' initiatives would not reach the desired level." He spoke at a PDRM community synergy programme held in conjunction with the 83rd birthday of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, attended by Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin and the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid.
Muhammad highlighted that programmes like these provide a platform to engage with the community, hear public views, and strengthen awareness of the shared responsibility in preserving peace and public order. "Through the exhibitions and activities provided, the public can gain a clearer understanding that PDRM has various branches of duties covering crime prevention, community safety, law enforcement, public order control, special operations, as well as support services to the public."
He further explained that such an approach is crucial in improving public understanding that the role of the police extends beyond crime-fighting, and includes building a safer, more caring, and responsible community. Muhammad expressed confidence that these programmes would help strengthen the ties between PDRM and the public, promoting unity, solidarity, and collective responsibility for security in Perlis.
