Kuala Lumpur: The national-level Golden Jubilee celebration of the 50th anniversary of Rukun Tetangga (KRT) will be held at the Kampung Kasipillay Rukun Tetangga Area (KRT) in Kuala Lumpur on August 28. National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang announced that the celebration will continue the following day at Galaxy Hall in Sentul, also in the federal capital.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron emphasized the relevance of KRT in the modern era by introducing a new slogan, ‘Empowering Communities, Strengthening Unity,’ during the Johor State-level Unity Week celebration and pre-launch of the Rukun Tetangga Golden Jubilee 2025 at Dataran Segamat. The event saw attendance from key figures such as National Unity Ministry deputy secretary-general, Mohamad Sobri Mat Daud, and Department of National Unity and Integration director-general, Datuk Roslan Che Daud.
Aaron highlighted the historical significance of the first KRT established in Kampung Kasipillay on August 29, 1975, marking the inception of a nationwide initiative that has significantly contributed to fostering a united national identity. He expressed that the KRT initiative not only demonstrates the government’s commitment to public welfare but also empowers citizens as pivotal agents in shaping the nation’s future.
In 2024, 152 Rukun Tetangga units were developed as exemplars of progressive communities, aiming to enhance the role of KRT across the country. Aaron also unveiled the new KRT logo during the event. Speaking later to reporters, he noted that there are currently 8,529 KRTs nationwide, with 20 percent of the chairmen being youths, highlighting the younger generation’s strong commitment to reinforcing local community unity.
