National Lawn Bowlers Invited To Compete In Commonwealth Games Test Series

Kuala lumpur: National lawn bowlers continue to be highly regarded globally, with Malaysia invited to attend a series of test matches at the end of April, ahead of the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz stated that the test series will also feature three of the world's best teams: Australia, Scotland, and England. He emphasized that the selection of Malaysia as the only Asian representative demonstrates the national lawn bowlers' improved performance in recent years.

Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz expressed his surprise upon learning of Malaysia's selection for the test series. He noted that the current top three teams in the world among Commonwealth countries are Australia, Scotland, and England. Typically, a team ranked fourth or fifth would be chosen, but Malaysia, which secured a seventh-place finish with one silver and one bronze at the 2022 Birmingham Games, was selected.

He attributed Malaysia's selection to the national team's remarkable achievement as the overall champions at the 2025 World Cup, surpassing Australia, Scotland, and England in November. He sees the test series as an excellent opportunity for the national lawn bowlers to assess their capabilities and enhance their preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, scheduled from July 23 to August 2.

In Glasgow, lawn bowls will feature four gold medal events: men's and women's singles and men's and women's pairs. Malaysia's last gold medal in Commonwealth Games lawn bowls was won at the 2018 edition in Gold Coast, Australia, by Siti Zalina Ahmad and Emma Firyana Saroji in the women's pairs event.
