National Artificial Intelligence Action Plan 2026-2030 To Be Tabled In December

Kuala lumpur: The National AI Action Plan 2026-2030 is expected to be tabled in December this year, focusing on specific sectors and key areas such as governance, society, and industry. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced that the plan, currently being developed by the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), is part of Malaysia’s efforts to become an artificial intelligence-driven nation by 2030.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the plan will build upon the existing Artificial Intelligence Governance and Ethics (AIGE) framework launched last year. Gobind emphasized the importance of aligning the plan with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s vision of creating an AI nation by 2030. The plan aims to address specific sectors, with a focus on governance, society, and industry.

The National AI Action Plan 2026-2030 will also address challenges faced by these key areas. During his keynote speech, the minister highlighted Malaysia’s trajectory to become ASEAN’s data center hub by 2035, supported by a 5G network. Infrastructure development will be complemented by policies that ensure trustworthiness.

This year, Malaysia introduced a National Cloud Computing Policy to secure a sustainable cloud future. A digital trust and data security strategy is also being drafted to enhance resilience. Additionally, the establishment of a National Data Commission is underway to oversee data governance, establish trusted data flows, and safeguard data rights. The government is expanding digital data through a public sector data digitalization policy and creating a National Data Bank to house high-quality datasets from various ministries and sectors.
