Kuala lumpur: The decision to grant a conditional pardon to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak falls within the powers of the King, Communications Minister and MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said. He clarified that the government, particularly the Prime Minister and Attorney General, had provided advice on the legal implications, national stability, and the principle of the rule of law.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized that the government acknowledges the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in exercising His Majesty's constitutional powers to grant pardons, reprieves, and respites. Fahmi confirmed that the decision to conditionally pardon Najib, which includes provisions for house arrest and a RM50 million fine, is within the King's authority.

Fahmi reassured that the government's stance against corruption remains firm. He stated that all cases, including ongoing ones involving Datuk Seri Najib and other corruption cases, would continue to be addressed in accordance with the law.

Earlier, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to grant Najib a conditional pardon. This pardon allows Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, contingent upon the payment of a RM50 million fine.

The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister's Department indicated that this decision was reached at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, which was held at Istana Negara today.
