Seremban: The Negeri Sembilan government is contemplating the establishment of Deputy Executive Council (Exco) positions for various portfolios to enhance the state administration, unveiled Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Exco roles would be allocated to state assemblymen from Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, PAS, and Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan). Datuk Ismail Lasim mentioned the possibility of creating Deputy Exco positions due to the limited number of available Exco posts, focusing on portfolios deemed essential.

The proposal signifies a novel strategy in the administration of the state government. However, specific details regarding the number of Deputy Exco positions remain undecided. Additionally, the decision concerning the appointment of Senior Exco positions is still pending, although there are provisions for such roles.

The Exco line-up announcement is anticipated either on Friday or next Monday. Datuk Ismail, aged 67, commenced his duties at the Menteri Besar's Office in Wisma Negeri at 9 am today, receiving a warm reception from State Secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim and department heads.

Datuk Ismail, representing the Juasseh state assembly constituency, was inaugurated as Menteri Besar by the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at Istana Besar Seri Menanti on Sunday. In the recent Negeri Sembilan state election, BN secured 18 seats, Perikatan Nasional captured seven, and Pakatan Harapan took the remaining 11 seats, enabling BN and Perikatan Nasional to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.
