MySTEP Initiative Extended to Offer Short-Term Public Sector Jobs in 2026

Kuala lumpur: The government has announced the continuation of the Malaysia Short-Term Employment Programme (MySTEP) into 2026, providing short-term employment opportunities within the public sector. This initiative aims to offer valuable work experience to individuals seeking employment.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the decision was detailed in a circular dated December 24, 2025, signed by Public Service (Development) deputy director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Bakhari Ismail. The circular was made public through a post on the Public Service Department's official Facebook page. The MySTEP initiative is designed to target graduates, job seekers, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens, offering them short-term work experiences in the public sector.

The circular specifies that the procurement of MySTEP personnel services will adhere to the rules and procedures outlined in the MySTEP Personnel Services Procurement Guidelines, which are set to take effect on January 1, 2026. With the introduction of these guidelines, the Human Resources Service Circulars (MyPPSM) related to recruitment policies and procedures for daily-paid workers, as well as the delegation of authority to approve overtime and pay for work on weekly rest days and public holidays, will be suspended.
