Accra:MyDigital ID is set to be enhanced through long-term planning and technological improvements, including the adoption of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), to combat cybersecurity threats from quantum computers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that preparations include a crypto-agility approach. This allows systems to transition to new cryptographic algorithms in a structured way, aligned with international standards and the National Cryptography Policy (MyKriptografi).
MyDigital ID employs Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for security, requiring users to pass multiple verification layers before gaining access. This measure aims to protect users' digital identities, reducing risks such as data breaches, fraud, impersonation, and identity theft in online services integrated with MyDigital ID.
In response to a parliamentary question from Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Ahmad Zahid detailed that MyDigital ID uses various cryptographic security mechanisms to protect the confidentiality and integrity of citizens' digital identities. He emphasized the government's commitment to securing Malaysians' digital identities, aligning with the goal of strengthening the nation's digital ecosystem and boosting public confidence in online government services.
As of October 7, 14.2 million people have registered for MyDigital ID, with the platform recording 82.75 million login transactions since 2024. Daily usage has surpassed 200,000 transactions, following the platform's expansion to support over 200 applications and digital services in both public and private sectors.
