Myanmar President Visits Malaysia to Discuss Key Issues

Kuala Lumpur:Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Malaysia for a two-day official visit, focusing on key issues such as the repatriation of Myanmar nationals in Malaysia, which will be discussed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Min Aung Hlaing's special aircraft landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12.30 pm. Upon arrival, he was greeted with a static guard of honour by two officers and 26 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, led by Capt Muhammad Ikhwan Adlan Jamaludin.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani was present at the airport to welcome the Myanmar leader. Other officials included Malaysian Government Chief Protocol Officer Datuk Rozainor Ramli and Charge d'Affaires of Malaysia to Myanmar Hew Tse Hou.

On Thursday, the official welcoming ceremony for Min Aung Hlaing will take place at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya. This will be followed by a bilateral meeting with Anwar and an official luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister.

Wisma Putra noted that the visit offers the Prime Minister an opportunity to maintain direct engagement with Myanmar, in accordance with the 48th ASEAN Summit's decision in May 2026 to pursue constructive and principled engagement with Myanmar. It emphasized Myanmar's integral role in ASEAN and affirmed Malaysia's commitment to supporting the bloc's efforts to promote peace, reconciliation, and humanitarian assistance in Myanmar. Malaysia plans to collaborate with all ASEAN member states to ensure regional stability and prosperity.
