Port klang: A Myanmar national was charged in the Magistrate's Court with the murder of a fellow countryman in Kampung Tengah Telok Gong, Port Klang, earlier this month. The accused, identified as thirty-two-year-old Maung Maung, acknowledged the charge when it was read out in the Myanmar language by an interpreter before Magistrate Nor Azilah Mat.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Maung Maung is accused of murdering Myo Than Naing at a premises on Jalan Tengah, Kampung Tengah Telok Gong, Port Klang, between 9.30 pm and 10 pm on July 5.
The charge is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which stipulates the death penalty or imprisonment for a term of not less than 30 years but not exceeding 40 years. If not sentenced to death, the accused is also liable to whipping of not less than 12 strokes upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Mohamad Rabiul Awal Ishak. The court noted that Maung Maung was unrepresented during the proceedings.
