Kuala lumpur: Independence must be translated into improving the people's well-being and strengthening the economy, in line with various MADANI Government efforts to help ease the cost of living while creating more opportunities to increase income. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud highlighted these priorities in his message for National Day and Sabah Day 2026.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mustapha emphasized the significant allocations for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), which now reach RM15 billion annually, marking the highest in the history of aid for the people. These efforts are complemented by the expansion of SARA to all, aiming to uplift the economic conditions of citizens. Additionally, an extra RM1 billion has increased total microfinancing to RM6 billion, supported by RM200 million in the Geran Sejahtera MADANI for small traders, including mothers working from home and market traders.

Mustapha stated that the government is striving not only to help citizens manage current living costs but also to provide opportunities for them to build a better future. This approach is crucial, given that the median household income in Sabah and Sarawak remains below the national median. The STR and SARA initiatives are intended to protect people's well-being and purchasing power, while grants and microfinancing offer opportunities for business and entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, Mustapha announced improvements to the BUDI MADANI RON95 and Diesel quotas, benefiting millions of users. Given the geographical challenges in Sabah and Sarawak, such measures are particularly important for ensuring that assistance reaches those in need.

In education, Mustapha noted an increase in the allocation for school maintenance and repairs, with significant funds approved for redeveloping dilapidated schools in Sabah. He stressed the importance of ensuring no child is disadvantaged due to their geographical location.

The increase in the e-Invoice exemption threshold further reflects the government's commitment to reducing the compliance burden for businesses, showcasing efforts to address the needs of various sectors.

Mustapha concluded by calling on citizens to uphold the spirit of the nation's founders, emphasizing the importance of building a Malaysia that respects its history, celebrates diversity, and addresses the real needs of every citizen and region.
