Muslim World Facing Trust Deficit, Says PM Anwar

Kuala Lumpur: The Muslim world is seen to be experiencing a trust deficit, where values of integrity, sacrifice, and contribution are often overshadowed by self-interest and material accumulation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted that certain leaders in the Muslim world emphasize struggle, sacrifice, and contribution, yet they amass wealth beyond their means. He noted that, despite possessing knowledge and competence, these leaders lack values, leading to a trust deficit. Anwar pointed out that in multilateral systems, there is a disregard for rules.

Anwar expressed these views at a meet-and-greet session with students of Albukhary International University. He mentioned that during his chairmanship of ASEAN this year, the focus was on rule-based progress, which is now often ignored. He criticized the exploitation and dehumanization in regions like Gaza and Palestine as examples of this failure to adhere to rules.

Also present at the event were Menteri Besar Kedah Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and AIU vice-chancellor and president Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Salleh Jaafar. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of young people developing a strong sense of conviction and purpose in their studies to drive change in society and the international community.

Anwar further stated that the Muslim world appears helpless, engaged in minor disputes rather than focusing on fundamental issues. He urged for unity within the MADANI Government to prioritize economic growth and quality education to restore confidence and power. He concluded that without such focus, efforts are ineffective.
