Pagoh: MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the government to immediately conduct a comprehensive and transparent forensic audit of the management of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) funds and complete it within a year. The former prime minister highlighted the importance of this initiative following revelations of weaknesses in governance and transparency in the management of TH funds, as detailed in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the institution.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhyiddin emphasized that an independent forensic audit is essential to trace the flow of funds, identify potential fraud, abuse of power, and possible negligence. He asserted that anyone responsible for causing losses to TH funds, whether through fraudulent activities, abuse of power, or negligence, must be held accountable and brought to justice. He made these remarks during the debate on the TH RCI report at the Special Dewan Rakyat Sitting.

Muhyiddin, who also serves as the Bersatu president, stressed that the findings in the report, which indicated that TH recorded estimated cumulative losses of between RM10 billion and RM12.6 billion from 2014 to 2020, must be addressed with seriousness and followed by decisive action without compromise.

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (MUDA-Muar) has called upon the government to establish a Multi-Agency Task Force to investigate 14 problematic TH investments identified in the RCI report. He proposed that the task force should involve several enforcement agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), police, and the Inland Revenue Board, to ensure comprehensive investigations are conducted.

Syed Saddiq further urged the government to announce the formation of the Multi-Agency Task Force to scrutinize each of the 14 problematic investments, extending the scope to include Felda, FGV, and Eagle High, to accurately identify the origins of these issues and the extent of the resulting losses. He also suggested conducting forensic audits on the problematic investments.

Echoing these sentiments, Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam) recommended that the MACC, police, and relevant enforcement agencies provide regular updates on all investigations stemming from the RCI findings within a clearly defined timeframe. Hasni further proposed that the special sitting mark the inception of continuous, bipartisan, and institution-based parliamentary oversight to ensure that the implementation of all RCI recommendations is consistently monitored and reported to the Dewan Rakyat.

The special sitting presents MPs with an opportunity to scrutinize the TH RCI report, which was made public on July 29 following the government's decision to disclose its findings. The report outlines various findings concerning weaknesses in TH's management and operations between 2014 and 2020 and includes 25 recommendations for improvement, 75 per cent of which had been implemented by TH as of July 30.
