Muallim District Police Headquarters Opens, Honoring Former Perak Police Chief Khoo’s Legacy

Muallim:The opening of the Muallim District Police Headquarters today brought back vivid memories for Datin Rita Koo Swee Kim, daughter of the late former Perak police chief Tan Sri Khoo Chong Kong. The event featured a pantomime performance that commemorated her father's life and service, nearly 51 years after his death.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Rita, now 78, recalled receiving the tragic news of her father's attack when she was 25 and residing in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. She and her husband hurried back to Ipoh to learn more about the incident. Her father had been attacked with a weapon, a memory that still touches her deeply as the Royal Malaysia Police, particularly the Perak police, continue to honor his legacy.

The ceremony was officiated by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah. Rita spoke of her father's dedication to his work, particularly his involvement with the Special Branch and efforts to combat communist activities. She shared that her father often spent extended periods away from home, leaving the family concerned for his safety.

Despite his demanding job, Khoo was a loving and caring father. Rita described him as a man of principle who inspired her with his courage and commitment to his duties.

The event also displayed Khoo's official car and the blood-stained uniform he wore during the fatal incident, which was an emotional reminder for Rita of her father's sacrifice. Born on November 12, 1925, in Kwangsi, China, Khoo joined the Sarawak Constabulary in 1952 and became Perak police chief in January 1975. He was tragically shot on November 13, 1975, in an attack believed to have been carried out by communist insurgents, succumbing to his injuries the following day. His driver, Corporal Yeong Peng Cheong, was also killed in the attack.
