MTPMA63 Committee to Review Sarawak’s Special Grant Formula Outcomes

Kuala lumpur: The Technical Committee under the Action Council for the Implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MTPMA63) is set to review the results of discussions between the Federal Government and the Sarawak government regarding the special grant formula under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution. This step precedes the finalization of any formula. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof confirmed that the MTPMA63 has agreed to work on a distribution formula that considers national interests alongside the constitutional rights of Sabah and Sarawak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) has already engaged in discussions with Sabah and plans to do the same with Sarawak soon. The Sarawak government has its own proposed formula, which the Federal Government is currently reviewing. The outcomes of these discussions will be brought to the technical committee led by Fadillah for further examination before a final decision is reached.

Fadillah, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, noted that no formula has been finalized yet. The decision hinges on the discussions between the MOF and the Sarawak State Financial Secretary's Office. He assured that the media would be informed once the technical committee reaches a conclusion.

The Ministry of Finance recently informed the Dewan Rakyat in a written reply that negotiations with the Sarawak government would take place this year as part of the five-year review cycle required by Article 112D. Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed that Sarawak intends to propose a grant amount based on a percentage of the state's revenue.

At a recent event, Fadillah, who also represents the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency, distributed grants to 30 mosques and 60 surau, totaling RM330,000 in allocations.
