Putra Heights: Over 30 volunteers from the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Chapters of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) have been mobilised to the site since the first day of the gas pipeline blaze incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya. Tunku Temenggong Kedah, who is also MRC national chairperson Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, said these volunteers were dispatched to three temporary relief centres (PPS), namely the Putra Heights Mosque Multipurpose Hall, Camellia Hall, and Sri Mahamariamman Temple, to assist in managing shelter operations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz stated that the volunteers have been on the ground since the beginning, providing aid, hope, and reassurance. She emphasized that MRC would continue its presence as long as needed, highlighting the unprecedented nature of the incident and the ongoing learning process in handling it. MRC is committed to assisting the government during disasters.
Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz mentioned that MRC has distributed essential items such as food packs and hygiene kits, provided basic health checks, particularly for the elderly and children, and offered psychosocial support to individuals experiencing emotional distress. She observed effective cooperation among government agencies in providing necessary assistance, including documentation and infrastructure, and expressed hope for continued collaboration to address the ongoing needs of those affected.
In addition to their efforts in Putra Heights, MRC has been active in Myanmar following a recent earthquake. Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz noted that MRC, along with other agencies and charitable organisations, has delivered 15 tonnes of relief supplies. She has had discussions with the Myanmar Red Cross Society to ensure the aid, such as kitchen supplies and hygiene kits, aligns with actual needs. Continued efforts and cooperation at the ASEAN level are deemed vital in supporting those affected.
